Disabling reading of a text block in an accessible title by a screen reader

To accommodate learners using a screen reader with accessible titles, initially hidden text blocks are read by the screen reader when they are shown, by default. However, you can disable the reading of a text block in accessible titles by enabling the Hide from Screen Reader text block property.

For details about working with initially hidden text blocks, see Making a text block initially invisible.

To hide a text block from a screen reader in an accessible title:

  1. Double-click the text block graphic of the text block in the Title Explorer. Alternatively, you can right-click the graphic and select Properties or right-click on the text block in the work-area and select Properties. The Properties ribbon is displayed.

  2. Enable the Hide from Screen Reader check box in the Web Options group.

The text block is hidden from the screen reader.
