Mission Report: Gamification Track Added to LUC 2017

New sessions are constantly being added to the agenda for the 2017 Lectora® User Conference. With 3-5 concurrent sessions being offered at any time, you can pick and choose to build your own dedicated tracks, such as a gamification track or a CourseMill® track.

Day 1 

Opening Keynote

Noted gamification expert Dr. Karl Kapp of Bloomsburg’s Institute for Interactive Technologies will kick off the conference with an interactive, engaging keynote presentation.

Gamification Goes Mobile

Vicki Mueller, Northwestern Medicine

A gamification and mLearning twofer that is sure to inspire! Challenge 1: Create an online game to reinforce learning. Challenge 2: Convert same game to a responsive format for mobile delivery. Lectora Inspire solved both challenges—find out how! Vicki Mueller will present the business case, how the game was designed, and go behind the scenes on some of the Lectora elements of the game. Learn the key steps to convert it to a responsive title for a mobile site.

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from Gaming

Andy Lockwood, Auto-Owners Insurance 

This session provides concrete examples of how clever interactions can be developed to reinforce learning while, at the same time, engaging learners in new and interesting ways—all without requiring too much outside of Lectora Inspire’s native functionality. Utilizing built-in Lectora components such as transparent buttons, completion statuses, actions, and variables, the session will showcase examples that transform a page-turning course environment into an interactive exploration familiar to anyone who has ever played the most basic video game. The goal is to introduce developers to a world beyond “click-to-reveal” interactions and “click next to continue” advancement.

The Game of Tax

Nick Elliott and Justin Ball, H&R Block

Taxes aren’t fun, right? Well, H&R Blocked created an eLearning game to increase engagement and fun through real-life experiences that their Tax Professionals could relate to, while developing the problem-solving skills they need in the field. In this session, you’ll learn how the basic concept was built in the framework of Lectora and how key components of the game were designed and built for reusability and faster production of the final course.

Throw Them Right In: Using Game Mechanics and Performance Support to Promote User Engagement

Carly Germann and Adriane Zonker, TiER1 Performance Solutions

Tier1 was tasked with building two training courses for the national retailer, Macy’s. To meet Macy’s expectations, the team determined the best solution was to frame the training in the form of a game. Game mechanics were incorporated to simulate situations employees would experience on their shift. Learn how game principles were used in an interactive eLearning course, which Lectora features were used, and more.
