Corporate University Enterprise, Inc. (CUE) is an educational consulting firm that brings a strategic approach to workforce education in both private and public organizations. The company was formed in 1998 and serves clients throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. CUE focuses on strategy, evaluation/metrics, operations/management, and curriculum/design within the strategic learning arena.

Challenge

A large federal government agency contracted CUE to design and deliver 24 hours of online training. This agency told CUE that the course must be completed in six weeks and they would need to find their own method of developing the courses. Linda Hawk, a consultant in the curriculum services division at CUE, was the project manager on this task. The client contacted her on a Friday afternoon and wanted her to present a project plan to them by Monday.

“The time frame to deliver not only the courses, but also my proposal was extremely tight,” said Hawk. “The problem, however, was that I had never developed an online training course since my expertise is in instructor-led design. This meant that I needed to find a tool to create and deploy the content both quickly and easily.”

Since Hawk and her team had minimal HTML or programming skills, they were in need of an easy-to-use authoring tool that gave them the ability to instantly publish to HTML, make quick changes on the fly, and easily import a range of file types.

Solution

On that late Friday afternoon, Hawk began her search for authoring tools on the Internet. After comparing several authoring tools, CUE chose Lectora by Trivantis not only because of the prompt customer service and friendly sales team, but also because it met all of CUE’s needs. “Since we were creating courses for the federal government, we needed to make sure that we had an authoring tool that was up to regulatory standards,” Hawk said. “Therefore, Lectora was perfect for our needs because it is AICC and SCORM compliant and also meets 508 compliance standards.”

Hawk and her team learned Lectora in one night! More importantly, they were able to develop all of the government agency’s online courses within 35 days. In addition, the courses seamlessly integrated with Plateau, the government agency’s learning management system.

CUE has been using Lectora for other projects in the private and public sectors. For example, Hawk and her team were contracted for another project in which they were given 42 slides to convert into an online training module. With Lectora, they were able to finish the project in just one weekend!
