Lectora Pro Suite Version X.2 includes the following updates and fixes:

Lectora Pro Suite X.2  Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed program interruptions and unexpected errors based directly on customer error reports.
  • Transitions drop-down will now fully populate on a Vista machine.
  • Selecting a variable in the Variable manager now places the focus on the correct page.
  • Fixed timing error caused by On Done actions on SWF animations.
  • Escape key will close the Properties window if it is floating.
  • Corrected the copying and pasting of actions with VAR() function to not replace the function.
  • Flash Command/Call function with a blank parameter will not publish with an empty string.
  •  Fixed issues importing formatted text and special characters from a Lectora Online package.
  •  Resolved issues adding animations and video via placeholders created from Page Layouts.
  •   Adding action when Properties window is undocked and closed will open the Action Properties.
  •   Resolved circumstances where clicking on an object would automatically open the Properties window.
  •   Title for email error message box is now properly encoded.
  •   Removed "Open Published Folder" from the  Mode > Preview in Browser Menu.
  •   Importing QTI file and saving will no longer cause Lectora to close.
  •   Adding a new object with a group selected will now automatically add it to the group.
  •   Chinese characters are no longer published in their own span tag.
  •   Removed the duplicate "Paste as" menu item appearing in the context menu.

Lectora Integrator Updates:

  • Addresses failed importation of PPT 2007 files
  • Upon import of some PPT 2007 files, an error message was previously issued - "The specified value is out of range." This has been addressed and fixed so that the import will complete successfully without error.
  • Addresses naming conventions of unnamed PPT slides that are imported. The names given to the Lectora pages were not being named sequentially and now are in the form of  "SlideNNN" (where NNN is a number - numbered sequentially in order of appearance).
  • Slides that were unnamed within a presentation and then imported into Lectora were renamed based on the order they were created in PPT. Therefore, the slides were often coming in named in a non-sequential manner which was confusing. So, we modified our naming convention upon import and now rename the slides so that they appear sequentially named based on the order they appeared within the PPT presentation.
  • Correctly interprets components of master slides and inherits them appropriately on Lectora pages
  • There were issues with objects on the master slide not appearing at the title level when imported, other issues with objects on a single slide not being imported successfully, and slides with background images were not being interpreted properly. All of these issues have been addressed and the title level and resulting pages should now properly represent the master slide and individual slide's contents.
  • Text boxes that extend beyond the size of the PPT slide are imported into the Lectora title without repositioning the text block
  • Text boxes are resized horizontally and vertically so that all of the text remains on the Lectora page. Unlike PPT, we do not allow you to add objects that overlap the edges of the page. So when a text block from a PPT presentation extends beyond the size of the slide, we keep the text block in the same place, and just resize it horizontally (right) and vertically (down) to ensure all of the text is placed on the page. Previously, we moved the text block on the page and users didn't like that - they wanted the text to remain in the same place.
  • Addresses crashes and import failures
  • Certain PPTs were causing Lectora to crash or simply could not be imported. Fixes were made that enabled the PPTs to be successfully imported.
  • Previous versions of PPT integrator automatically imported basic, non-vector images from PPT presentations into the Lectora title as PNG images. Users are now able to select upon import whether the images should be imported as PNGs, GIFs, or JPGs.

Knowledge Checks and Assessments

By Sighle Brackman, M.Ed.
Instructional Designer
Custom Development Services (CDS) Department

Knowledge Checks

Knowledge Checks are activities scattered throughout your course to reinforce learning. Some guidelines for knowledge checks include:

  • Use these activities to reinforce the explicit or implicit learning (or performance objectives) of the course.
  • The number of knowledge checks should be consistent with the most important learning points.
  • Be sure to provide feedback to the learner about the activity relative to its learning purpose.
  • Provide feedback for both correct and incorrect answers.
  • Allow the learner to repeat knowledge check activities as many times as they want before advancing in the course. You may consider having the learner repeat activities until they get them correct before proceeding.
  • The placement of knowledge checks should be close to the learning they are about. If you want consistent placement, wrap up each topic or lesson with these activities.

Assessments

Assessments are used to evaluate the learning that takes place for the learner. Not all learning requires an assessment. These are typically consistent with Level 2 evaluation in Kirkpatrick’s Four Levels of Evaluation. Some guidelines for Assessments include:

  • Assessments are often used to determine whether learners pass or fail a course. A typical percentage for passing is 80%.
  • Write questions to test against the implicit or explicit learning (or performance) objectives for a course.
  • Ask enough questions to ensure that the implicit or explicit learning (or performance) objectives of the course are met. The idea is to test the learner on only the most important learning.
  • An average number of questions for a half hour course (about 30-45 slides) is about 6-12 questions (or about 1 per 5 slides); for an hour course (about 60-75 slides) the average is about 10-20 questions.
  • For increased accuracy in testing and measurement, create a pool of questions from which an assessment randomly selects a set of questions. Learners do not receive the same assessment if they need to repeat the test in this case.
  • Another method for increased accuracy in testing and measurement is to randomize how the questions appear on the assessment. This can be used for a consistent set of questions or in combination with random selection from a pool of questions.
  • Provide a certificate of completion for learners to celebrate their success.
