New features in Lectora 2006 include:

JavaScript Title Manager - Helps overcome firewall and security issues involving Java applets by publishing to AJAX, which does not require the applets. Organizations previously cut off from elearning due to security concerns can now offer online training.

Translation Tool - Instantly extracts text from content for faster and more convenient translation.   Once translated, the text can be quickly imported into the content.

Preview and Test in Browsers - Previews selected page in multiple browsers to test for compatibility and differences.   Helps content developers foresee problems, improve compatibility, and manage consistency of the content.

Drag-and-Drop Additional Files - Enables quick and easy addition of files such as PDFs and Microsoft PowerPoint files.

Object and Page Transitions - Adds pizzazz to content with engaging transitions such as wipes, splits, boxes, checkers, strips, bars, and more.

Sticky Notes - Enhances collaborative authoring environments by adding customizable sticky notes, which track the authors name and the time it was posted.

Assignable Unit Prerequisites - Defines custom learning paths by specifying requirements for progressing through a course.

Lectora, the most powerful authoring and publishing software available, enables anyone, anytime, anywhere to create engaging online content without exhausting time and effort. Lectora provides robust, yet easy to use features that help corporations, academic institutions, and government agencies worldwide communicate faster and more efficiently.

Tip: Library Objects

The Learning Object Library feature in Lectora enables you to conveniently store and share objects within Lectora, saving both time and effort. When you have objects in Lectora, such as images or a set of actions that will be used frequently, it is a great idea to save those objects as a library object. To do this, select the object in the left-hand pane, then right-click and select Save as Library Object. To reuse the object in another title, simply go to Tools on the menu bar, select Library Object and Insert Library Object from file.

Tip: Creating Forms

When creating a form, be sure to arrange the left-hand pane in the same order as the form objects placed on the content page area. The way Lectora tabs from field to field is read in the order of the left-hand pane from the top to bottom, not by the order of the fields placed on the page.

Trick: Creating keystroke navigation in Lectora

You can create keystroke navigation in Lectora by placing an Action at the Title level set to:

1.    On: Keystroke Key: Space

2.    Action: Go To

3.    Target: Next Page

By creating this action, the Title can be paged through by simply pressing the Spacebar.

Go to Previous Page keystroke action can be made just the same by setting the action to:

1.    On: Keystroke Key:Backspace

2.    Action: Go To

3.    Target: Previous Page

Note: Don't forget to disinherit the keystroke actions from the first and last page of the title.

Great-West found that Lectora by Trivantis was 75% faster than Macromedia Authorware 7 in creating Computer-Based Training programs.

Great-West Life & Annuity Assurance Company serves millions of Americans with its full range of health care, life and disability insurance, annuities, and retirement savings products and services. To train its thousands of employees, Great-West began creating computer-based training (CBT) programs with Outstarts TrainerSoft authoring tool. They soon found, however, that the tool couldn't meet their needs. Trainersoft wasn't as robust as we hoped, said Dave Iglicki, Trainer at Great-West. We experienced several customer service issues and were not satisfied with the results. Due to the low satisfaction with Outstarts Trainersoft authoring software, Great-West began investigating other authoring tools. After thorough evaluation, Great-West concluded that Lectora by Trivantis was the best authoring tool to meet their needs. We chose Lectora for its ease of use, rapid development features, and robust capabilities, said Iglicki. Lectora has advanced features that provide the flexibility for our technical employees to create high-end content, yet its ease of use enables our non-technical SMEs to create robust courses as well.

Currently, Great-West utilizes Lectora to create a range of training programs, including technical training, product training, employee training, and policy compliance and acceptance. In developing these training courses, Great-West found that Lectora provides many benefits. For instance, in an initial eight hour test conducted by Iglicki, he found that Lectora was 75% faster at developing content compared to Macromedia Authorware 7. Great-West also discovered that Lectora provided robust capabilities, while Outstarts Trainersoft was too basic and substandard.
