Quick Lectora Tips on Tests and Questions

        Publishing large tests to html

If you are publishing a large test or quiz to html that has long questions or answers, your test may not be scored correctly in Internet Explorer because IE can only accept 4k and 1 cookie per session. This means that if you have larger tests, some answers may be marked as incorrect. To avoid this problem, make your test answers as short as possible.

Using a "Done" button in tests and quizzes

In order for your test or quiz to be scored, you must include the "Done" button on the last page of the test. However, if you are randomizing your test, however, you must NOT include a "Done" button.

Resetting a question when published to html

The only way to reset a question within html is to modify the question variable for that question to be a blank value and then exit the page. You must then return or refresh the page.

In order to reset ALL of the questions, simply use the "Reset Test" action in Lectora.

Quick Tip to a Common Problem:

Have you ever wondered how to get rid of that annoying image bar that appears in IE 6 when you mouseover an image? Well, here is a quick trick to remove it:

Place an External HTML Object at the title level field in Lectora and choose "Other" as its type. Then, place the following line in the custom html field:

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="imagetoolbar" CONTENT="no">

Do you need help figuring out what type of font to use or where to place it? Get started with the quick typography

tips below.

Don't use more than two fonts in one document.

Several different kinds of fonts can make a website or marketing piece look jumbled and confusing.

Stick to one or two fonts to stay consistent.

Do not use all capital letters

Words in all capital letters are harder to read. The human eye naturally looks for ascenders and

descenders and in all caps this isn't possible.

Make your text big enough to read, but not too big.

If your font is too large it will overpower the design and seem to almost jump off the screen.

However, if it too small it will be hard to read and strain the eyes of your readers.

Final Thought: Experiment!

If all else fails, experiment with your text size, font, and spacing. You won't believe how much text can change the look of a document. Experimenting lets you see the possibilities.

According to The National Institute of Standards and Technology, the e-learning market is expected to exceed $46 billion dollars this year.

According to the Masie Center, 92 percent of large organizations are implementing some form of online learning this year.

A recent study by ASTD (American Society of Training and Development) shows that up to 60% of companies in the U.S. use some form of e-learning. In fact, this study also found that small and medium organizations are now beginning to use e-learning as well as larger organizations.

Market News Publishing found that organizations in all markets, from education to financial services, view e-learning as a critical means of surviving in a turbulent economy.

12 Tips to Create

e-Learning Content

At this year's ASTD International Conference and Expo in Orlando, Florida, Trivantis' very own Jeff Harris, VP of Marketing, presented "Twelve Principles You Need to Know to Create e-Learning Content." His presentation proved to be a success in aiding content developers to create e-learning content. To help you create content more effectively, we would like to share Jeff's top ten principles with you:

1.     Its unlikely that 100% of your e-learning content will reach 100% of your audience 100% of the time.

2.     Know your students!

3.     A handful of media file types are all you need to create engaging multimedia e- content.

4.     Content that communicates well in one medium may be a failure in another.

5.     Use a small, specific group of fonts for your e-learning content.

6.     Respect copyrights.

7.     Be practical first, and then be cool.

8.     Lean towards lean!

9.     Engage em!   Make it interactive!

10.   Keep it small.

11.   Develop a storyboard or script before you create your first page of e-learning content.

12.   Test your e-learning content on a variety of computers with different configurations.
