PepsiCo: Bringing Learning to a Mobile Workforce

Show Description
  • Marvin Mullins, Frito-Lay Sales Capability & Training (Novice-Intermediate)

PepsiCo faced a challenge to reduce the financial impact and ‘downtime’ that occurs with instructor led reinforcement training. Having evaluated many options, PepsiCo decided to deliver this type of training on mobile devices. This session explores how PepsiCo created the overall concept (including hosting and delivery method), engaged in rapid mobile learning development and continue to manage the mLearning project.

    The mLearning project consists of:
    • Individual learning to reinforce functional skills
    • Self-facilitated team learning to build leadership skills
    • Individual technical training on how to use the mobile device

The PepsiCo team designed short courses for mobile that could be developed rapidly and at low cost. The courses are based upon components from instructor-led training that reinforce skill and team development. These short courses, developed in Lectora, contain a mix of video, audio, discussion questions and role-based scenarios. They are delivered to an audience of up to 4,000 people via Intuition’s Mobile Learning solution. The mobile app gives the learner the flexibility to decide when and where they would like to participate in the courses.

The session will also consider challenges faced by PepsiCo including how to deliver these courses to mobile devices within their business application, as iTunes does not support enterprise solutions.
