When I try to import a PNG, as soon as I click on the filename in the "import image" window, Lectora locks up.The only workaround I've found is making sure the PNGs are interlaced, but then that makes them look very strange while building the project in Lectora. On publish, they look fine, but it's quite a pain to have to build like this.

I had experienced this before. It happened when I modified a PNG in Fireworks. Not being a graphics guru, I don't know the best settings for saving these files, but I discovered that when I opened the PNG in Photoshop and saved it again, I was able to import the graphic fine.It seems that Lectora does not like a particular PNG setting. I could not isolate it, though. You may try opening it in different editors and saving a new version. This hasn't happened recently. I definitely have not seen it since Lectora 2009. I cannot recall if this happened with 2008, but it did happen with 2007.Not much information, but I hope it leads you down the right path. Good luck.Kevin

I still haven't found a solution to this. I have all of the latest updates for Lectora....and now any PNG I try to import, interlaced or not, will not work. Non-Interlaced freezes Lectora completely, and Interlaced says "Cannot Load Image File" now.Fun fun.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I am having the opposite problem where PNGs created in Fireworks work but ones that have been created in Photoshop CS3 do not.
    Thanks!

    Hello Hans,

I am using PNGs all the time without difficulties in Lectora X.

At work, I use the open source program, Paint.net to work with my PNGs. I suggest opening and then saving your png files with Paint.net and see if that solves your problem. The problem is located at: http://www.getpaint.net/

BTW, I also use Photoshop CS4 at home and the resulting PNGs also work in Lectora X.

    Default Importing PNG freezes Lectora

I'm getting the same exact problem. I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5. When I an import PNG Lectora freezes and then crashes. Works fine with every other file format.

    A couple of ideas.

    1. Make sure they are using RGB color scheme instead of the 4 color print ready scheme. (Don't remember what that is but I have seen it cause problems with .jpgs)

    2. How are you importing? Pasting? Dragging and dropping on layout pane? Using the Import button on the object? I never do that mainly because it takes too much time. Just either copy and Paste As .png or drag from a Windows folder and drop on to the page and then position.

If I save PNGs from Photoshop via Save As.. menu, they won't work in Lectora.
If I save PNGs from Photoshop via Save For Web.. menu, they work okay (and filesizes are typically a bit smaller).

I never had time to investigate what's causing this (although I think it's to do with 8/16/24 bit colors), but if you have problems, just try saving your files using the Save For Web menu.

P.S. This definitely has to be reported as a bug and dealt with by Trivantis.

    Lightbulb

    ssneg is correct!

We ran into this today for the first time at work and traced it back to the same cause in Photoshop (CS3 - CS5.5):

png from "Save As..." does not work; png from "Save for Web..." works fine.

Comparing the two files, the Save As... versions for us were almost twice the size. It turns out that they include not only the image, but also by default) all the ICC color profile, a good bit of Adobe header information, and lots of EXIF META data; Save for Web... files strip out ALL THAT EXTRA JUNK and contain pretty much only the png image.

I wrote up a complete report of the situation with screen caps for Trivantis and will email it to support the morning.

I would assume this problem is specific to Photoshop, but I plan to test on other platforms like GIMP, Paint Shop Pro - anything I can get my hands on in the future - to see if the problem exists on other platforms in some regard.

So if you're using Photoshop, train yourself to use CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-S, or Save for Web... for Lectora Titles
